Usman Khawaja was left from Australia’s 12-man team with this week’s fourth Ashes Test against England.
Steve Smith replenishes Khawaja, who batted at number three during the series but managed an average of simply 20.33 out of his six innings.
Smith missed the third Test at Headingley with concussion.
His place is kept by marnus Labuschagne after three successive half-centuries.
